Phil Knobel graduated from Brent School (Baguio, Philippines) in 1960; University of Puget Sound (Tacoma, WA) with a degree in political science and history in 1964. Phil obtained his secondary teaching credential at San Jose State (San Jose, CA). He received his Master’s degree in Sports Administration from Washington State University (Pullman, WA).
Phil’s teaching career began in California where he worked in Fresno, CA and Nevada City, CA as a history teacher. From 1968-2007 Phil had a 40 year international teaching and administrative career. This included: The Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands, Truk (1968-1970); American School of Japan (1975-1980), Tokyo, Japan; International Schools Services, Balikpapan (Borneo), Indonesia (1975-1980); Jumeriah American School, Dubai, United Arab Emirates (1980-1989); Seoul International School (1989-1994); Seoul Foreign School (1994-2007).
Phil coached junior high girls soccer (Dubai) and for 10 years was the SFS girls varsity soccer coach. He also taught elementary and junior high physical education (Japan, Indonesia, and Dubai). Additionally, Phil was an Athletic Director (Dubai) and Activities Director (SIS; SFS); APAC Coordinator (SFS).
In June 2007 Phil retired and now lives in Eugene, Oregon with his wife, Jane. They have six grandchildren who live in Boise, ID and La Crescenta, CA.
